Updated on May 21, 2025 | Egypt e-Visa

Egypt with its iconic landmarks remains one of the best travel destinations for people. This is exactly what made around 16 million tourists visit this country in 2024. From cruising on the Nile River to exploring historic sites like the Valley of the Kings and Luxor Temple, there is a lot you will be able to experience when you visit the country.

However, to unlock all this, you will first have to match the Egypt tourist visa requirements and apply for your trip. You must also arrange the essential documents for this trip. This is the only way in which you will be able to enter the country to explore its wonders.

Passport Requirements

Your passport plays the biggest role in this trip. Without this, you will not even be able to book tickets for the trip, let alone apply for an Egypt visa from NYC, London, or other cities. This also proves that you have solid ties to your own country. Make sure your passport is still valid before making other arrangements. On top of that, your passport should also match the basic requirements. Some of these requirements include:

  • The passport should have a minimum validity of at least 6 months beyond the travel date, that is, after you exit from the country.
  • There should be a minimum of two blank pages in your passport for it to be stamped for the visa and entry.
  • Your passport should be in machine-readable condition so that it can be scanned properly, and all your information should be clear.

Visa Requirements

The visa works like a travel permit that opens the door for you to enter Egypt. This also proves that you have matched all the Egypt tourist visa requirements set by the authority. So, you will be required to use these documents for your visit.

Types of visas for Egypt

Egypt offers different types of visas to foreign nationalities. You will be required to select the right category that matches your travel purpose after understanding the different types of it. Some of the types of visas offered by the country are:

Tourist visa

This is for individuals who are coming to the country to explore the different attractions of the country. You can opt for either of the two visas, depending on entry. One is a single-entry visa, which is valid for 90 days but lets you stay for a month at the most. The other one is a multiple-entry visa that stays valid for 90 days and a maximum stay of 90 days. During this period, you can leave and enter the country multiple times.

Business visa

This visa is applied by people who are coming to the country to attend meetings, seminars, trade shows, or even for giving lectures. There are two types of business visas, a single-entry visa which is valid for 3 months and a multiple-entry visa that is valid for 6 months.

Transit visa

This is another type that is applicable only for people who are stopping in Egypt for a short period during their trip. You will only be required to get this kind of Egypt visa from NYC or other parts of the world if your layover is between 6 to 48 hours. However, if your layover is for less than 6 hours, then you will be eligible to get a transit visa, in that case, you will not be allowed to exit from the airport. On the other hand, if your layover is more than 48 hours, then you will have to get a regular visa for the country.

The visa application process stays more or less the same for all visa types. The steps of applying this through online (*) are:
