Egyptian e-Visa and Visa-on-arrival for Canadians: opened
Thinking about Egypt travel? And heard about wrong-headed visa cancellation. No worries, Good news! Egyptian authorities have announced that the pre-entry visa requirement for Canadian passport holders has been canceled.
Canadians have had to apply for a visa before visiting Egypt since October 2023. The application process costs about $150 CAD and must be submitted in person or by mail to an Egyptian embassy or consulate. Many Canadian tourists were deterred by the onerous process; in the past, they had had easier access through computerized applications or visas upon arrival.
With effect from December 1, 2024, Canada will no longer need a pre-entry visa to enter Egypt, making travel there easier. On October 14, 2024, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced the move, which comes after conversations with Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty during the UN General Assembly.
According to the statement, Canadian visitors will be able to apply for a visa at Egyptian airports of entry and the electronic visa (E-VISA) application process would be reactivated.
What is the Egypt e-Visa?
Eligible tourists, business travelers, and transistors can enter Egypt with the Egypt e-Visa, an electronic travel authorization. This is an easy way to get a visa without going to the embassy or consulate. You can apply for an electronic Egyptian visa for Canadians by filling out a simple online application form and paying the fee by credit or debit card. You will receive your electronic visa via email and you must print it and present it with your passport at the border.

What are the changes to electronic visas for Canadians?
The Egyptian government announced that it will change some of the electronic visa requirements for Canadians and other nationals as of October 1, 2023. The main changes are:
- Electronic Egyptian visa for Canadians, entry to be converted into a single visa is valid for multiple entries. It means the visitor can enjoy multiple entries as per their validity period.
- As long as your e-visa is valid, you can enter and exit Egypt multiple times.
- The e-visa's validity for a single entry is 90 days and for multiple entries 180 days from the issuance date.
- With an approved e-visa, a Canadian visitor can stay in Egypt for a continuous thirty-day stay on each visit.
These changes aim to simplify travel and promote tourism to Egypt and Canada.
How does a Canadian passport holder apply for an Egyptian e-visa?
If you do not yet have an Egypt e-visa or your current e-visa is about to expire, you can apply for a new e-visa online. The process is simple and fast. All you have to do is:
- Fill out the online application with your personal information, Egypt’s accommodation, and travel information.
- Pay the e-visa application fee through a valid debit or credit card.
- Receive your visa via email within four business days of receiving your e-visa.
- Carry an e-Visa printout and take it with you when you go to Egypt.
You must apply for an Egyptian visa for Canadians at least four days before your planned arrival in Egypt. For the six months following the day you intend to enter Egypt, your passport should be valid.
